sing与sing of
这两个词都表示“歌唱”之意，但涵义和使用场合并不相同。
Sing的意思是“唱歌”，它的对象是歌曲或人，一般都是具体的东西。如：
Let's stand up and sing the national anthem．
让我们起立，唱国歌。
The mother sang the baby to sleep．  
母亲唱歌给婴孩听，使之入睡。
Come and sing to us．
来，给我们唱支歌吧。
Sing up，so that we can all hear you．
要大声唱，好让我们都能听到。
从上面的例句可见，sing既可以用作及物动词，亦可用作不及物动词。
Sing of的意思是“歌颂”，它的对象是抽象事物，不是具体的东西。请比较：
Poets sing praises to Hong Kong．
诗人歌颂香港。
Their poems sing of the beauty of Hong Kong．
