Duetotheadverseinternationaleconomicconditionsweexperiencedin2001，theflowoftouristsintheworldamountedtoalmost700millionarrivals，afigure0.6percentlowerthanintheprecedingyear.However，theprospectsforthisyeararepositiveandundoubtedlypointtowardarecoveryofthisactivity，withitsconsequentmultiplyingeffectsonotherbranchesoftheeconomy.

Atthesametime，wehavearichancestralcultureintheregion，madeupofthearcheologicalzonesofcentralandsoutheasternMexico，andjewelsofcolonialarchitecturesuchasthoseofZacatecasandGuanajuato，tomentiononlyafew.Furthermore，UNESCOhasrecognizedcitiessuchasMoreliaandOaxaca，amongothers，asCulturalHeritageofHumanity.
