Now we're facing the coming of the 21st century. I think it's the time for us to take a look at the years that have passed in this century. During the 20th century, man has had a large num-ber of great inventions, including the airplane, the television, the electric lamp and the air-conditioner. One of the most important inventions is computer. The use of computer has changed our life a lot.

Computers are making our lives more convenient and com-fortable. We get information fast and easily with the help of com-puter. Today, more and more people are using computers to do' business control, medical care, to get education or to play games. Through the Internet, all people are connected. The world seems exactly small on the Internet where you can always exchange ideas with the people thousands of kilometres away in less than a few seconds.

We're glad to see that our life has really been improved by computer. However, we have to say that it also gave us some trou-bles. People who spend all day playing with computer can easily get tired or even sick. People, especially the children are gradually losing the chances of enjoying the fresh air and bright sunshine because they have spent so much of their time in front of the screen playing games or doing some other things. Many parents are worried about their kids as they usually play games when they are supposed to study. People sometimes are quite alone because of the use of computer. When everyone just stays home and sits in front of his computer > they surely have little time to get together with others. In this case, computer is robbing our humanity. This is the very problem many scientists worry about today.

It seems troublesome because computers have such advan-tages and disadvantages that people have different opinions on them. But that's what adds spice to our life in a form of suspense, spirited discussion and emotional clashes. Believe it or not, com-puters have brought us into a new world we've never expected. It does improve our life though some troubles still exist. Man is the greatest creature on this planet. I believe we're able to solve all the problems we meet. I'm sure the modern technology will make computer slighter, better and closer to people. Possibly it does not appear in its present form after several years. By that time, may be we can talk to computer and carry it everywhere because it's smart and small. We'll be glad to enjoy the sunshine as well as the fresh air with all our friends and our computers. By then, we'll never worry that computer would rob our humanity as computer itself has become a good friend of ours. And I also believe that the friendship between computers and human beings will last for long.
